Default Kayaking with the Thule J-hook roof rack

Has anyone gone the route of putting a kayak on the top of their H3. Ive got an 07 H3, that didnt come with any roof racks, So I went to Ebay and bought an OEM set for 199.00. Great price. They look factory and came with the Chrome letter inserts. I then bought the J-style hook setup from Thule(835XTR - Hull-a-port). The only problem is they dont give you the 80mm bolts to fit around the big roof racks. So you have to order them from the factory. Ive looked up on the roof and set up the J-style hooks without the bolts and it doesnt seem like there is much clearance between the roof and the bottom of the rack. Ive tried Yakima and their hardware doesnt fit in between the top of the roof and the bottom of the roof rack. How are you guys doing it? i dont wanna be going down the road while the kayak is on the roof racks with the bolts holding the J-hook on dinging into the roof. Any ideas?? Pics welcome...

I have never installed the Thule mounts. I have seen people with kayaks on their H3 racks around the harbor but never paid that close of attention to it. I am sure someone here has.

I have those same Thule kayak racks, they will fit. There is not much clearance between the roof and the bolts but if you move the Thules to the spot on the roof away from the raised sections they should fit..I hadno problem mounting them with the hardware they came with. Hopefully that makes sense...

So you didnt need the 80mm bolts(Adaptek3 kit)? The 65mm bolts were too small by just a small amount,

mfish, I was looking through your photos. Canyon de Guadalope. Awesome place. I used to travel with a band and every year they would take all of us down the baja and do the whole trip on dirtbikes. did you guys go to the hotsprings? or mikes skyranch? its an awesome place...

I went and pulled my racks out of the garage and they are the same racks except for the fact they are made by Yakima[&:] Sorry...same style but wrong brand, but no adapter kit needed.

And yes, Guadalupe Canyon was awesome!! All the campsites have their own hot spring hot tub so we were chillin in that thing the whole weekend, the water was nice and HOT!! I'd love to go back there soon but with the huge increase in crimes against americans my friends and I are all taking a vacation from Baja. But damn that place is nice, its like a lil slice of paradise in the middle of the desert. The 20 or so miles of off roading to get there is one of the funner parts of the trip.

Awesome pics...Heres a couple. We had about 25 of us on dirtbikes, did 4 days worth we had a support vehicle that came with, a 16ft box van, it went everywhere....even made it to canyon de guadalope...

mikes sky ranch is where the baja race starts..I think...I just know in the baja racing community its extremely popular...

Been to Mexico enough. It doesn't hold much attraction for me anymore.

Youhaven't seen Mexico until you go down to a place just outside Cancun called Playa Del Carmen...I'll be there in a few weeks and have been going down the last 3 years. Beautiful place to chill........
