Default Info on in-dash GPS car stereos

I'm going to be buying some sort of in-dash car stereo with GPS soon, either for this truck or the next if we get it.

Do most of the newer units have upgradeable maps?

If not, I'll stick with my TomTom. I just don't want to invest in a car stereo if it's going to always have the same old maps.

Sorry HG I use Street Atlas USA in my Panasonic Toughbook for a GPS so I can switch it back and forth from one vehicle to the other. No in dash Nav for me.

I'm using the PMD-B200 Blackbird from Alpine with the IVA-W200 in dash. Gives the portablitity plus the ability to be used as an in-dash nav. You can update the software anytime from Alpines' website, which includes updated mapping, when available.

I found Clarion and Kenwood have the option to add the Nav unit. I may do that. I like having separate modules, and being able to finance them separately as well

I just installed the AVIC-D3. It packs alot of stuff for a good price (comparably speaking). Upgradeable maps, touchscreen, dvd,cd, bluetooth hands free, bluetooth audio, I-pod hook up, xm, and more. The coolest feature I did not even know it had till I had it installed is it will tell you your slope, and side acceleration, that is just cool when out on the trail.

That's is awesome. Does is show you a picture of a truck or something to show your slope? Does it show front and back slope, side to side or both?

Does the GPS show altitude as well? My laptop GPS used to do that, but most of the portable ones I have seen do not do Alititude which is unfortunate.
