How can you tell from just looking at an H3 what package it is? ie,adventure,alpha,ect.

 

The long and short of it, the Alpha will have a V8 engine and an Adventure or Offroad Pkg. will have a locker button or two on the far right of your 4 wheel drive control panel.

 

An Alpha has a V8 (5.3)and the seats and rear gate are badge with Alpha, uselessly chromed on mirror, door handles. But have seen some with no chrome. Most have a towing package and chrome wheels.
Adventure package has 285/75/16 tires, different shocks (red in color) locking diff's .
But a Alpha can have Adventure package mine did.

I wish my Adventure model had red shocks, all I have are normal mud-colored shocks.

 

Just remember an H3 can be I5 or V8 (Alpha) and either can be had with or without the offroad (Adventure) package. Always look for the locker buttons on the dash and the Alpha badges/headrests for a quick check to be sure. Many dealers dont lnow what they have and will unintentionally mis-state the model. Oh, V8's are always an auto and otherwise they could be optioned out any way you wanted. Like a base w/offroad suspension and sunroof or a Luxury model with offroad pkg or a V8 with no chrome or leather.

 

Some of the things said above have some of the models and options mixed up a little.

Remember a lot of these rigs have had parts changed or modified by previous owners and even dealers.

Purely by sight without the keys to the rig and the doors locked:

A bone stock H3 Adventure will have the Bridgstone 285/75R16 tires. Take a peak inside and you will see the center stalk 4x4 controls. There will be 2 buttons to the right side of the 4x4 controls instead of one.

A bone stock H3 Alpha (not Championship editions) will have chrome mirrors, chrome door handles, Alpha badge on the steering wheel, Alpha Badge on both of the front leather seat head rests, Alpha Badge on the rear door.

A bone stock H3 Championship Edition will have Red shocks and brake calipers, fender flares, hood stripe behind the fake hood vent, exclusive Ultra Silver Metallic paint, 2 buttons to the right side of the 4x4 controls. Note: they could be had with the Base or Chrome Package, Leather or Cloth.

The Adventure package was only available on the I5 equipped H3/H3Ts.

The OffRoad package was only available on the V8 (Alpha) equipped H3/H3Ts.
