OK, here goes. GO to the Hummer Driving Academy, you can check it out at www.Hummer.com I went there right after I bought my H3 and they will teach you everything there is to know about your Hummer and what/how to use it. Your treated like a rock star and everything is included in the price. They meet you at the airport, put you up in the hotel, pay for all your meals and wine/dine nightly. Plus you'll get free swag and you'll be driving on the same courses that they train some of the military on. Once you graduate you get 10% off hummerstuff.com and every year they hold a reunion trip that is a different parts of the country. It is worth every penny so just go. My only regret was that is was too short my wife and I wanted to stay there a little longer. Hope this helps, also you'll be trail certified which is one step you need for the HOPE program. Also, the HOPE director is there on site.

I got trail certified in MOAB

Seriously, I think the Hummer Driving Academy is a great thing, I'd love to do it sometime. I had high hopes a few weeks ago when my local Hummer dealer had their winter HUMMER HAPPENING but they called it due to bad weather (serious rain and cold temps-above freezing mind you)...

I was really looking forward to meeting more like minded folks who love their Hummers and want to take them off road. Short of taking the HDA I think you can have a lot of fun on a local Hummer Happening. They are escorted by the dealer, normally lunch is provided and you get to caravan all the Hummers to the off road site and get some tips on how to Wheel it.

So if you can't do the official Academy thing, contact your dealer and bug the hell out of them regarding the next Hummer Happening. Every dealer is supposed to have a few every year. I know that isn't the case though as MY dealer had one last Dec. right after I bought mine H3, I got the notice the SAME day as the event [:@] This year they only had one that I know of and it was also in early December and that's the one that was called due to weather. Instead they offered to take everyone over to FudRuckers (like Dave & Busters) food, spirits & games. I opted out. So I stayed home and took out my frustration playing MOTOSTORM on my PS3, sure wish Motostorm had a Hummer in it.

I have to tell you guys that haven't taken your Hummer off road you don't know what you're missing! It is a frikkin' HOOT! It brought back memories of my youth when I rode dirt bikes in enduros, motocross and plain old trail-riding except I was in my big black Hummer. The bonus is if you take your wife or girlfriend with you, you can scare them when you get to the hairy stuff. Or maybe she'll kick your butt out of the driver's seat and show you how she can wheel!

and the thing Trey didn't mention about the academy.... you're learning to drive their H3/H2/H1... not yours... so no need to be afraid of a little trail rash....

Show them the picture of you driving blindfolded....

At my Dealer's Hummer Happeningsit's the sales staff that runs them and they don't offer any help/advice. Case in point on the last one an H2 got stuck in water and had it up to the bottom of the seats and an H3 got totaled because of the newbie driver driving the wrong way into a mud pit and getting submerged. Remember if your out at one of your dealer's events and not sure what to do don't be afraid to ask. It's better to be sure than to ruin the fun you could be having.
Yeah Muddy atleast at the Academy if you make a huge mistake it's not your Hummer that gets hurt.
