Hummer Head/Valve Issue H3 2006 help needed from London UK
Hi all,
I live in London, and I've owned my 2006 H3 now for just over a year, and the dreaded head issue has surfaced at just 28000 miles. I've had the various test done and have been quoted £3300 GBP (Approx $5200) to fix. It unfortunately started just 3 months after my 1 year warranty with the specialist dealer expired. My VIN number has the 681***** last 8 digits, so I am in the range of the poor quality versions. FYI I had the problem diagnosed at an independent garage (with almost 40 years experience dealing with American vehicles), but went for a quote for the new head with the official dealer. I've had the typical symptoms, rough idling, coupled with an intermittent engine light etc.
Now, I've used the search engine here for the last 3-4 hours, and I've found a lot of results pertaining to said issue, but I have one question. I have been told by an official Hummer dealership that the only way to fix this, is to have a new modified head, with better valves installed.
I've seen a lot of people who have also replaced their heads only for the issue to resurface some time later, where some individuals have reported that they then had the head replaced a second time.
Could somebody let me know if they have had the new modified head installed on their H3? And whether or not this managed to solve the problems? Am I right in thinking that those that had their heads replaced didn't receive the modified versions until later, which is why some failed for a second time?
Sorry to bring up this old issue, any help would be great, as it's obviously an expensive purchase. Any feedback, abuse, comments or otherwise will be greatly accepted.
Thanks.

In 99.9% of the cases where the head was replaced due to the faulty seats that has solved the issue. Keep in mind there are very very few that have had the issue twice and that may have occured because the new head didn't have updated valves seats, like a situation where the shop may have already had the head in stock for another reason or it was early in 06 when the replacement was done. Ask questions of your mechanic until you are satisfied you know what he is putting in.
Good luck.
Good luck.
