On a Trip last week from Central Ohio to Savannah GA and 2000 miles on my H3 I got 16.1 mpg. I plan to add a tune, CAI and exhaust in the near future and I'm hoping for improved mileage. Anybody do these 3 mods and can share your results?

There are so many factors in judging mileage. Topping off is one of them, but also if you are on a level surface. You know how many gas stations there are out there where you truck is leaning or what not? That affects how much gas you can push in that tank also. My rule if I want to judge mileage is use the SAME pump for a few weeks, and once the handle stops, take it out. That way you know you are most likely getting the exact same amount of fuel in there every time. If you go to different stations that isn't going to work. You don't know what the threshold for the pump cut-off is at different stations, plust if your parked at an angle, there is going to be some air in the tank. I just think unless you have a digital system like the Cadi's have, you are never REALLY going to know and the best bet would be use the same pump all the time. Just my opinion.........

For what it's worth...an old trick was to bump the car with your butt several times to work out the any air bubbles in the tank.

So, what you are saying is your Hummer is running on natural gas?

Do you folks think that topping off makes that big a difference? Maybe if the pump is stopping prematurely I would say yes, but if you top it off manually just short of it spilling back out of the filler cap I don't think it makes much difference. A simple example: say you go300 miles and fill up with 18gallons when the pump stops = 16.67 mpg.If you were to keep pumping until it spilled out, how much more gas is it likely to be? 1/2gallon at most? Then 300 miles / 18.5 gallons 16.22mpg, not much differnce IMO.

Hasanyone ever tried one of these: http://www.scangauge.com/

Maybe real-time monitoring of drivinghabits (amount of throttle and relation to instantaneousmpg, shift points for manual trans, relation of highwaycruising to instantaneous mpg, etc.) would give some guidance on all ourtheories?

I'm thinking about getting one, they're on eBay for about $160 or so.

Jeff

I actually started a post about this device and a few members here purchased it. I would love to get it but I have too many gadgets the way it is. Dennis has even threatened to beat me if I don't stop
