Default hood vent

Anybody made theirs functional? I notice a lot of h3 owners talking about their trucks running hot, and thought making the hood vent functional would help. Any ideas?

Good question, I also have wondered if anyone has made their hood open like the H2's making the hood grips actually usable??

I had thought about doing it, haven't had a temp problem, just thought about having the "louvers" laser cut to create actual vents and then cut the hood out from under the vent.

I think I'm waiting to see how it acts in its second summer. It only got hot when offroading and I'm doing more this year, so it's a wait and see thing for me.

I drove it all last summer in central Florida and it never got much past the half way mark on the temp gauge. I also have always wondered about getting a functional hood vent but may wait until it's out of warranty.

I haven't had an issue with my temp going up in my H3, and I wheel it hard. Maybe there is another issue?? I would be more afraid of alot (more) dirt getting into the engine area versa how much gets in there now if you were to open up that vent. Someone should come up with some side vents like the Unimogs have...I will attach pic of our Unimog if you can see the vents up by the from fender area.... Of course H3 would have to look nicer...but same idea !

My HMMWV (M-1114 et al) Hada functional hood vent and it worked great! Of course the radiator was up there but you get the idea. Who cares if dirt gets in there, as long as heat gets out.

i'd be worried about affecting the crumple properties of the hood if you mess with its integrity by cutting a chunk out of the middle. if you're going fast enough and hit something solid enough to crush your front end you've probably got enough to worry about, but i still wouldn't want to add something else.
