Default Hood Louver Question

I have an '07 H3 and I have a question about the hood louver. It is a chrome louver and I noticed that when I was in the car wash the other night, there was a black piece of weather stripping or something pulling out of the top of it towards the windshield. What purpose does this strip serve? What holds it in place? I simply tucked it back in place, but it looks like it might come loose again. Do I need some sort of adhesive strip on it?

Thanks,

Did the chrome just cover the stock one? I didn't know if it was an entire new part.

There are way too many variables to guess at...

There are plastic stick on overlays
There are billet chrome replacements
and then there are everything in between...

I would imagine that the adhesive wouldnt look like weather stripping but if you got an overlay kit it might have some weather stripping around the edges to prevent damage to the paint, a good cya for a company making them...

just my $.02

Awhile back there was a service bulletin concerning these hood lovers coming off while driving. If you ever took your vehicle to the GM dealer for service of any kind, they may have completed the service on this and re-glued your cover.
If you keep receipts, it would state the warranty work done.
I don't know exactly what they used, but yours may be showing out the top.

Just a guess but I would say its weatherstripping that is supposed to have adhesive. I did not have that strip before they reattached it per TSB. So I assumed they put adhesive on both sides of that strip and attached.
