Default Hi from Pa, new guy with 2006 and already problems....

Hey guys, I have been lurking here since November. I finally found an H3 that meet my high standards and took delivery of it Thursday night. While driving home Friday the check engine light came on and I did notice it would sporadically idle rough. So I pulled the code and found it had a cylinder 4 miss-fire, my first instinct was a coil pack?
So I called the dealer were I purchased it from (a large Nissan dealer) they instructed me to just take it to the local Chevy dealer they would take care of what ever it was.

Well I got a call about an hour ago and they told me it needs a head!! I all makes sense now this is one super clean Hummer, the fender wells and backside of the wheels are cleaner then most peoples cars interiors its just absolutely immaculate, its emerald green with the black/green interior. I have pondered why would anyone take care of a truck that well and just get rid of it? My guess is they new the head was bad and traded it. LOL

Anyway anything I should be aware of with getting the head replaced, Is GM the only source for the head? Want to make sure they don’t try and install a used head or a rebuilt one (if someone even sells them) I read some where those GM only warrants the new head for 12mos/12,000 miles?

Also is the head “updated part” or the same old? Thank good this took a dump on someone else’s dime. Just sucks had it for 4 days

Be glad it happened now. The dealer will replace it with a new updated head and no more problems and you should get warranty for the work that is being done.

From what I have read the 3.5 and 3.7 are essentially the same engine. The only difference is the 3.7 is bored out. Correct me if im wrong...

I could be wrong, but this is what I understand: When gas was leaded, the lead acted as a lubricant, and the valve seats did not have to be hardened. When lead was removed, hardening the valve seats kept them from wearing prematurely. The '06's heads did not have hardened seats, and wore. The fix was to harden them.

It's only been since 1971-72 since lead was removed from gas..... That's what happens when you have bean counters & idiots running a company....
