Take the "closed hook" off via the bolt, and slip the lopped end over, and bolt it back on. Yes, it's a little more trouble, but it's safer. I do know of people who were killed when ****** straps broke and metal hooked ends struck them in the head... not to mention the untold numbers of vehicles damaged.

Before you go buy a "hi-lift" ask yourself where you will jack the vehicle up with it. Are you going to mess up the plastic clad bumper, or go right for the painted sheetmetal? Are there any after market items that will support the weight of the vehicle like a replacement rear bumper, grill guard .. rocker sliders? In other words, if you can't use it, it's not worth getting. The D rings *might* work, but they may be too close together to get a corner up, and still provide stability, especially if your off road. If you do get one, Do not carry it inside the vehicle with you unless it is bolted down. As a firefighter I made a wreck where one was in the back of a K5 blazer and the diver went off the road, flew off into a ditch, hit the other side, and the hi-lift kept going when the vehicle hit and squished his head like a mellon. He was DRT.

I understand the K5 diver was dead, but what does DRT stand for? I have never seen or heard of those initials.

For anyone interested, most off roaders like to get the All Cast instead of the Cast/Steel. I have a cast/steel 48" in my truck that I've had for a long long time, and there isn't anything wrong with them. I also have a all cast 60" for my K5. The all cast are just a little more heavy duty than the cast steel versions. If I had to buy another, I'd go all cast.

I get all sorts of uses from mine. I've used them to pull up fence posts by wrapping a chain around the post, and putting the jaw of the jack under the loop of the chain. They come right up out of the ground, no problem. The only limit to the amount of uses, are the users imagination.
