Help on a year H1
Guys I owned a H2 and have sold it recently. I am in the market for a H1 now and I am wanting to get up to $55,000 if I need to. Only question is after careful researching I found out the older H1 have a weak block and tend to crack. I am assuming it could come from the over heating issues on these 6.5 turbo diesel.
What year is the best year for H1 and how can you tell if someone is selling a older H1 that may have issues or on it's way out. I am interested in this beautiful 1998 H1 and the price is right. Any suggestion is welcome and also any major issues I need to look out for.

RE: Help on a year H1
In my opinion the 1998 is a perfect year. It is after the HVAC upgrade but before TT4. The engineproblem was that some blocks had a number 8 cylinder issue. AMG repaired the ones that caused problems during warranty. I have a 97 wagon from the year/range that had the issue. It has 60K miles on it and runs like a top. You can run a Carfax on the vehicle and see if the engine work was done or see if the Owner has reciepts showing it done. Not all of the trucks had the issue. Like I said, mine has 60K miles with no problems. Use the search function on this website and there are threads that deal with this issue. Let us know what you decide and if you have other questions. Check back and others will chime in on this.

RE: Help on a year H1
If your main concern is the block issue 2002+ is your best bet....
if you plan on wheelin it hard 1998 is the perfect year as stated by 3hummers.... no ABS or TT4... and has the HVAC upgrage.... the reason why wheelers prefer no ABS or TT4 is one less thing to go wrong on the trail and in deep water/mud... also with ABS you cannot do Brake throttle modulation which basically is a technique that is almost as good as lockers.
If you dont plan on wheelin it and will use it more for onroad ABS and TT4 is good just dont get the early ones...
