Default Help on a purchase...

Pretty new to this forum, same old story...lurking for a while trying to gather info & thought I was ready to buy a new H3 in april. Then a friend of mine said his boss was selling his H2 and might let it go cheap (like we've all heard that one before!) Anyway, I went and looked at it and it might not be a bad deal after all. Thought I would ask your opinions...

03 H2, loaded, F & R heated leather, airbag susp. 50k miles, pretty darn immaculate. Black, waaay too much chrome for my taste, but that can be removed. He says 6k in new rims & tires(doubt it, since the tires are 37x12.5x18 nitto terra grapplers) but they are pretty. Chromehummer light bar with 4 roundoff-road lights, chromestep bars. Stored inclimate controlled garage with acover. I think I can buy it for 24-25k. Would this be about right? Oh, he also has all the original tires, wheels, step bars, taillight covers, etc. that go with. I actually like the look of the factory wheels, so might just sell the wheels/tires/blingto lower cost even more. Am taking the wife up to test drive inmorning, sure would like to know a fair price for this thing.

Anyway, thanksin advance for the replies & info.
Chris

Seems fair. I got 28K for my 2003 Black H2 with adventure package,, 50K miles, optioned out, brand new tires about 6 months ago. The H2 is a sweet ride. No warranty on a used H2 and you would get that on a new H3. At 24K the H2 would be hard to pass up.

sounds like a decent deal.... just know that most of the options you mentioned are standard feautres of the truck and not options that would increase the value of a base model...

Be prepared for issues with the airbags.... that alone can run you thousands in repairs.

Thanks for the replies...I knew about the airbags, they were repaired under warranty @ 25-30k miles. What other options should I look for? What were options on this year truck. They didnt have nav, right? What else do I need to know?

Thanks again,
Chris

Actually it seems like it would be a pretty darn good deal if you could get it for $24,000-25,000. Fortunately I have access to a VERY reputable auction site which pretty much most dealers will useand subsequqently base their wholesale (trade-in) figures off of. In this case...a 2003 H2 with around 50,000-52,000 miles has a wholesale value ranging from $20,500 to $23,750...and that accounts for those H2'ssold at these reputable auction facilities nation wide since late February. So if you were to indeed get your asking price...you would be paying only a bit over wholesale...which of course if GREAT...especially if Kelly Blue Book puts this type of vehicle around $28,700 for private party value. I personally think both KBB and Edmunds.com have more realistic prices than NADA. The Blackbook is pretty good too.

Why don't you buy a nice Honda Accord and save 10 to 20 thousand?

LOL, greenie troll alert!

Seriously, I would jump on it in a minute. It is a good deal. I bought mine last summer and it has the adventure package and the lux package. I paid 29,700 with 40,000 miles. At that time it was the best priceI could find. Most were around 35-36,000 similarly equipped. Granted it has been a little while. The H3 is a great truck, why not get an H2 for less. Take advantage of the high gas prices and get a good deal. I bought mine at a dealership though and got the extended warrantly to 90,000 miles as well. It has already been paid for so that is another thing to take into consideration when buying from a private party. I wanted a newer one but had to have the orange so 2003 it was...
