Default Help needed, electric short and fire!

Hello all...
First of all apologies for my bad Eng. Well, today probably the worse day of my life since past 3 years owning my H2. While I was driving back from town,I heard a loud "popping sound" and immediately followed by thick smoke coming from my a/c vent. Stopped the H2 and turned off the engine. When i opened the hood,i was shocked that my H2 was on FIRE! The pics tells everything.

I need help from fellow Hummer members to share with me what will the items that i need to replace, obviously my fuse/relay box is totally destroyed.

Thanks all

First off, glad you were not hurt because it could have been much worse if the fuel lines caught!

With electrical fires, if that's how this started will be hard to determine unless you find and obvious smoking gun. The shop will need to start by removing all the damaged parts (engine harness, battery & tray fuse box etc) and basically replace all the damage. Your best bet if you can find a H2 in a yard and buy parts that way. Electrical harness can get soooo expensive! My guess is judging from pics (and I can't see body & paint) is the insurance won't want to touch this with a 10' pole and declare it a total loss, repairs could run thousands & thousands using all new GM parts. BUT If I was going to let anyone touch it the dealer would be on the top of my short list, the have access to more resources then a small garage will ever have & they have the body shop on sight to send it over repainting after all the barbecued parts are removed.

my guess the sound might came from 1 of the relay and it caught fire after that. the fuse box is totally damage but strangely when i try to start the H,it started. I;d stop it immediately afraid that i will create more damage.

I agree, insurance would probably total it out. I would get some quotes from reputable shops before trying to piece together fixes for it. All that old stuff needs to be taken out so you can really see what the battery acid and flames hit.

Sucks to hell, that is my biggest fear. Thank god you caught it before it got out of control! I've been thinking about keeping a fire extinguisher in my rig....maybe I'll buy one now!

On the same page was thinking about and extinguisher also. These would be nice in our deuces.

Robot Check Robot Check

Like I mentioned above: more then likely this maybe the results of someone adding or playing with the something. And most of us here have added lights, stereo's did the DRL hot write etc. A $125 is cheap insurance to watching our rigs burn.

It's hard for me to believe your H2 started after that. I would bet the loud pop was the battery exploding. You DO have full coverage insurance on it I hope?
