Help - Bad Gas Mileage

Help - Bad Gas Mileage
I just bought a 2007 H3 for my wife two weeks ago. I only got 270 miles on my first full tank of gas. It's now time to refill. My wife does a lot of highway driving, probably 70%. I called the dealer and they told me that the H3 takes some time to break-in. Is this the case? Anyone else dealt with this?

RE: Help - Bad Gas Mileage
I think there are 5 strings about mileage.
My driving habits have never yielded what the EPA says, didn't buy it for the mileage.
The EPA is changing the testing associated with the posted city/highway because of the complaints from the hybrid owners. The new posting will be about 20% less than the what is claimed today - which is where mine typically falls.
Please no more mileage strings - if yours drops there's a problem, contact the dealer...
Just my thoughts.

Just to add to the original posters thoughts. My wife drives hers to work and back home about 10 miles round trip and the H3 averages around 15-16 miles to the gallon. I have no idea what it gets on the road yet. We have not taken any trips in it to verify.

RE: Help - Bad Gas Mileage
I have owned my H3 for one year as of today. For the first 5000 miles my H3 was getting 14 mpg with unleaded. I drive about 60 percent highway time. After the 5000 mark I started to get better gas mileage. I now have 11,000 miles and I am getting 19 mpg with regular unleaded. I am very happy with the 19 mpg.

RE: Help - Bad Gas Mileage
Give it a chance! I have the 07 with Adventure package, with the Automatic Transmission. My first tank was also low mileage, but the dealer may not have filled it to the top. Butthe mileageisgoing up with every tank. I now have about 1500 miles on it and the last 2 highway trips were 18 MPG and 17.5 MPG. But part of the answer is: Cruise control, cruise control, cruise control. I also had a Chevy Colorado Z-71before I bought the Hummer and by the time it had about 24000 miles it was exceeding the EPA rating by about 2 MPG highway. My Trailblazer also beats the EPA by the same margin on the road. Hopefully we will see similar resuts withthe Hummer.
