Heater Core?

Hello - I am a female travel nurse having some trouble with my 2006 H2. I'm working in New Mexico and the first time I turned on the heater this year, it stunk inside my car like antifreeze and a fog-substance blew in through the vents. My windows all fogged up with this mystery fog, which would NOT wipe off or go away when I turned on the defog. My heater heats up and works but I can't use it because of the dreaded mystery fog. I have been driving to work using my heated seats only (BRRRRRRRRR)!!! My warranty ran out recently and I called the local Hummer dealership for an estimate to replace the heater core and they quoted me $1400.00!!!!!! Does this sound right? Oh....and antifreeze, or something greenish, leaked out on the metal by my left front tire when I first noticed the fog and the smell. I just wanted a second opinion.
