Heater Control Light Out

Heater Control Light Out
All,
The ***** that you turn to increase the blower or increase the heat temperature or change the heat location are suppose to light up at night. Of these three large *****, the one on the left, the temperature control ****, is not lighting up. This started not lighting up about 4 months ago, although for one evening about 3 weeks ago, it did light up strangly enough. I thought an internal bulb burnt out, but with it lighting up one night out of the blue, I'm thinking maybe it's a loose wire. I talked to the dealership about it and they said it would be $400+ for a new HVAC control unit, not including labor. I'd prefer not to drop that kind of money on a cosmetic issue like this. Yes, the temperature control **** does work fine, it's just that it won't light up. Any suggestions? Anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks for your help,
Joe
