Cool H3 Stalling at low speed

I have a 2007 H3x with 256,000 miles on it. When I'm approaching a red light or coming to a stop, it stalls on a regular basis, unless I move the transmission to 3rd then down to 2nd to keep the RPM's up. Any idea what could be causing this? Other than that the vehicle runs great!

usual GUESS is torq converter lockup, like no clutch in stick shift.
neutral is ok huh?
i dont know how t c works in these things but when driving steady andf i hit gas the rpm goes up b4 the speed changes, so t c slips as in most cars. someone will know more,,,soon!

256k huh?!!

Am I reading this correctly... 256,000 miles ? If so, this has got to be some kind of Hummer record !

Yep, you read that correctly...256,000 miles. I live in the Northeast and drive 140 miles EACH way to work, so the majority of it is highway miles. The winters are tough at times because of the lake effect snows that form off of Lake Erie. My H3 has run great other than this stalling problem.

Sounds like a spark plug issue or a timing issue, have you had the timing chain replaced at all?

Take a look at your throttle body too, has it EVER been cleaned? I'd hate to see what it looks like, yeesh.

Please let us know what items you have replaced in your 256,000 miles. That will give us a better understanding of items that may be causing your issue.

I would start on the lowest cost items, you prob need to do them anyway if you haven't already.

-Have the computer checked with a code reader (local auto parts store FREE) to see if it has "thrown" a code.
-When is the last time you replaced your air cleaner?
-Clean the TB (cost of a can of Carb Cleaner)
-Clean the MAF sensor (cost of a can of MAF cleaner ONLY!)
-replace the spark plugs (I would stick with the OEM they last for about 90-12K)

if you don't mind after you fix your hummer would you please let us all know the problems you ran into while getting up too that mileage. I am pretty sure most us plan on taking our hummers up that high.

We have a 2006 H3 110,000 miles, its my moms. She took it in to a place to have it worked on for her stalling and they cant find anything wrong with it, onstar cant find anything wrong with it. But it Stalls Both high and low speed stalls. I just had my 4th open heart and we need out figure out whats wrong with this. Also when it stalls a red lock shines on dashboard!

Bobby-

I'm guessing something to do with the security/alarm/key...But could be completely wrong.
