Default H3 sound system help??

Just bought new 2010 h3 without the monsoon sound system and added a Kenwood dnx6020ex. Since putting it in, my factory speakers sound aweful! What is cheapest way to make it sound better? Add a sub and amp? replace door speakers? I dont really want to lose my cargo space in back, so it have to be something small. I saw the JBL hideaway, but I dont have the right panels because I did not get monsoon package. I went to local stereo store today, of course they said I need some $1000 system to make it better...I have put so much into it already, that $1000 more for a cleaner sound with a little bass just isnt worth it. I figured my fellow Hummer folk could me out...thanks...I am glad I found this page!

You could try running the door speakers and tweeters with a amp give each channel a bit more power the headunit might not be putting out enough. Even though most aftermarket stereos usually put out more then stock units. I have the pioneer avh 3100 and it made my car speakers sound great and I added two subs and a amp for more bass. Also really going through your head unit manual carefully and checking all the settings could lead to a way to better the sound some head units are so customizable that if settings are just right things can sound pretty bad like my old jvc unit in my old truck.

Question Thanks for your help!!

But i may have mispoke, because if add just an amp for more power, the factory would blow Im sure...they rattle worse just when i turn it up halfway now. Wish I knew more about this stuff! Could just adding an amp and sub take the strain off my factory door speakers?

No, if your speakers sound bad, then they will still sound bad with a sub. Your best bet is to find a decent set of door speakers to replace your factory ones.

I don't know what kind of budget you have, but I'm sure you can find a nice set of 4 on crutchfield.com for less than $200, since you're not going high end.

You have a Kenwood deck and I know Kenwood makes some nice speakers and they are fairly priced too. I did a quick search and found these. You can get all four for $105 shipped.

I have the factory Monsoon/ navi combo and just had a shallow box with the right air space built for my 2 Fosgate P3 10". I tell you with my class D amp it kicks. Great bass and the factory speakers are still holding up well. I plan to change them out soon though!!!

The Monsoon speakers more than hold their own. I have a sub box in the back with 2x 12" JL Audio 12w3v2's with a JL Audio 500W class D mono amp pushing them. The speakers fall behind a bit if I bump up the settings on the bass, but for normal listening, they do just fine.

Maybe your settings aren't all that correct. Don't have your bass cranked all the way up (maybe lower your mids to compensate) and make sure you are faded greatly to either front or rear or left to right by accident. I upgraded to a touch screen dvd player and my factory speakers sound good if not the best OEM speakers I have heard to date in my vehicles. I was hell bent in putting after market speakers and a sub like all my past vehicles but said the heck with it after the new deck install.
