H3 Replacing LT285/75R16 advice
Happy New Year. I have about 45k on what I believe are the original tires with 17" wheels on my '06 H3 with luxury pkg, Bridgestone A/T Duelers in the size in the title. I am fine with the look. I need to replace them due to bad dry rot. I live in Las Vegas area, car is garaged/shaded 90+% of the time. Almost all the driving is done on local roads and highways. I could find myself in snow once a year in Colorado on paved dirt roads. So I'm looking for help on the following:
Best smooth ride and handling tire size/brand.
Best tire to handle the heat.
This dry rot issue pisses me off as the tread is great, and don't want to have that issue with the new tires. So any advice on preventing dry rot is appreciated as well.

I have the Falken Rocky Mountains, 305/70-16 and am very happy with them. The extra 3/4" width looks great on the truck.
Here in south Texas, we have to drive long distances to get anywhere and the Falkens are quiet on the highway. More than adequate on the trail, and a very good sand tire.

Keep in mind that the Duelers that were equipped on your H3 were a specially designed C-rated 6 ply tire which would be good offroad but also give a compliant highway ride. Most all others brands in that size are going to either be a D-rated 8 ply or most likely an E-rated 10 ply, both of which will not give as good of a ride on road as what you have now. Go for the D rated if you can find them.
I've had good luck with Nitto Terra Grapplers on past vehicles in that size which were a D rated tire. Falken Wild Peak's are also available in a D rated 285 and have been reported to be a great on and offroad tread.

How about the clothes on your back, the shoes on your feet, or the cellphone in your pocket? Welcome to 2013.
But yes, I agree it's best to buy American while you still can.
