Post H3 performance chip help

Does anybody no what's the best chip to run in a in h3 for more power? I recently installed 20' wheels with 35' tires I found them being real heavy my 3 feels like it needs more power and a different shift point any suggestions would be helpful

do a search". you find there isn't a miracle chip. your best bet is a cai, computer reprogram, and a ported polished throttle body, but even with all that the h3 will be a slow box. The h3 is slow and underpowered to start with, especially with the 5 cylinder, but when you add that big of a wheel and 35s do not expect to get anywhere quick.

Best thing to do is spend a little time searching the forum and reading posts. this has been beat to death.

PCMforless.com does a good quality service oriented PCM tune.

Wheels have nothing to do with power loss, its all about tire diameter that creates final drive ratio.

Most of the banter about I5s being under-powered comes from people who do not understand what is going on and why. Straight block gas motors make big TQ, not so much high rev HP. A bone stock 2007 I5 makes 242HP/TQ, I had many V8 pick ups in the late 70s/early 80s that made less than 170HP, but they were not as heavy or capable as an H3.

That is why I went with 305 (33") tires to retain the stock adventure final drive ratio and then added performance mods. The true difference off road between 305s and 315s is minuscule.

They have quit a bit. A 20" wheel adds significant weight in most cases. True that the overall circumference is a key aspect, but you add a heavy wheel and you lose the feel of power. I put 20" wheels on my cts with a small sidewall tire equaling less than half an inch difference from the stock 16 wheel/tire set up, quickness and gas mileage suffered.

If that wasn't the case then every serious racer wouldn't care about spending a lot of money on light weight race wheels.

the extra 3 or 4 inch diameter of steel or aluminum wheels weighs more than 3 or 4 inches of tire.

pcmofnc.com is the companies new name and site. Highly reccomended!

Hi Guys!! Just wanted to clarify for you. As some of you know, we used to be PCMforless, and now we are PCM of NC. We just shared a name/website with the other office in Ohio, we were never the same business. We moved in July of 2012 and decided to change our name while we were at it, so we simply dropped the 'for less' as I think it implied cheap, and when I think cheap I don't think quality. None of the pricing has changed, so don't sweat that!

We also have a separate website now, where you'll find all of our H3 stuff - pcmofnc

To those who were asking about tuning - obviously I'm biased - but I think it makes a HUGE difference!! We make a ton of changes in the tune that really perk up the H3, and we can tune it for 87, mid grade, or premium - whatever you would like. We change things such as timing, air fuel, power enrichment, rev/speed limiters, make changes for your bigger tires, shift firmness, and much more. All of these things combined make a great difference in driveability, you'll notice much better response when you accelerate, even at part throttle.

We do plan on running an Easter sale that will start shortly. We always announce it on Facebook, so if you 'like' us there you'll get a notification! Thanks for having us as sponsors! -kelly

Does this require one to bring their Hummer to your shop in Carolina?

I have a 2008 H3 Alpha, what is the price for updating hp, etc?

They have different options for you. Just go to their website and you will see what options are available. We are going to send ours in, and have them tune it. We will just be without the hummer for a few days. But you can also have them send you a unit for you to use while they tune yours if you need your hummer during that time. All the pricing is listed on the site too.

From the faq

Send In Program

As the name implies, you send in your PCM to PCM of NC. The vehicle will not be drivable during this period of time. Sent-in PCMs are our first priority, and are typically shipped back out the next day. No security relearn or CASE relearn is required. NOTE: Some vehicles will also have a TCM (transmission control module). If you do not know whether you have a TCM or not, call us at 704-307-4227 to find out. If your vehicle does have a TCM, we will need both the PCM and the TCM so that we can tune the engine as well as the transmission for you.

Core Program

In the core program, we send you a tuned core PCM (and TCM if applicable). We start by using GM software to program your vehicle's VIN & calibration, and then tune that file. Once you receive the core, you may send yours in back for the core refund, or retain both modules. If you choose to send in your stock PCM/TCM for the core refund, it must be postmarked with seven days of receiving the tuned PCM. The core program requires a CASE relearn and security relearn also.

Loaner Program

The loaner program sends you a stock PCM/TCM to borrow so that you can send in yours for programming. When we receive your PCM, we tune it and return it to you, and then you send in the loaner for the core refund. The loaner PCM will need a security relearn, but there are no CASE relearns required. NOTE: Expedited shipping on loaner programs only covers one shipment. To upgrade both shipments to express, please contact us!
