Default H3 exhaust manifold confusion. Please help

My exhaust manifold is rattling aginst the side of the bell housing. Why are they touching? No exhaust leak any where. I put a thin piece of cardboard between them and the rattle stopped as the could not touch. How do i permanently fix this. I just bought this about 1 month ago.

Is it the manifold or the heat shield? Mine was the heat shield.

Its for sure the header. It is touching the bell housing. I have put cardboard between them for now but i have no clue why they are so close. I know the head has been changed so i dont know if its like the header off of a gmc canyon or colorado or are the headers the same? I will post a pic asap. Any advice appreciated. It is starting to eat away at the bell housing so i need to fix fast.

If the manifold is touching the bell housing how did you manage to put cardboard between them? Manifold is solid mounted to engine. transmission is solid mounted to engine. When one moves the other will move exactly the same. Sorry makes no sense.

I use a long screw driver and wedge it between the collector and the front drive shaft and pry them apart sepperating the gap between the header and block. Yes it does move and yes it does rattle but no exhaust leak. You make it sound like im an idiot except i know what im looking at. Why would i lie about an issue on my f-ing hummer?? Either suggest a fix or dont post anything.

Sounds like something is bent badly. Did any of the exhaust manifold bolts to the block break off?

I am going to remove the heat shield today and take a look at the bolts. Only other option i guess is to remove the manifold and dent it in so it does not rub anymore.

Take a breath and r-e-l-a-x.

Can you see all of the exhaust manifold bolts that are attaching it to the head? Not uncommon for a bolt to break, leaving the manifold loose enough to wiggle. Do you know the history of this H3, was it hit? The manifold is not supposed to be that close to the bell housing.

Maybe a prior owner put on an aftermarket exhaust header, because the factory uses exhaust manifolds?
