I'm interested in looking into buying an off-lease H3 but know little about the vehicle other the the fact that is it an awesome looking truck. I will research it but wanted to come here first.

My basic need is to have the ability to tow my 18.6' bass boat (2500 -3000 lbs.).

Outside of that I want something reliable. I have seen by quickly looking in the forum that there is a head gasket issue. Is this year specific?

I'm looking anywhere from an 06-08 model.

Any info, opinions (good or bad), years, features, models to stay away from would be greatly appreciated.

I work in service for a Hummer dealer so know a little about these trucks. There was a head problem on early 06 trucks but once the head is replaced should be ok. I would look for an 07 myself as it carries a 5 year 100k powertrain warranty. I would also look at new 09 or leftover 08 models as the prices are real good right now. Like anything there could be a problem or 2 but I have owned 2 and had no problems. I got a V/8 one this time and itis a solid 1.5 mpg less than the inline 5 cyl. You should be able to tow your trailer but you will feel it back there. I really enjoy mine as most due on this site. Good Luck. Steve

The Alpha only started in 08 correct? I saw one for 25k....I assume this would be better for pulling the boat?

Are there any "must have" options?

Do you know the official towing capacity for either the Alpha or the regular H3?

Towing capacity for the 3.7l I-5 with automatic transmission is 4500lbs. I think the V8 is 6000lbs...Alpha owners want to confirm that?

Ihave an '08 H3 andI love it.I have 12,200 miles on it with not a bit of trouble. Whatmy wife and Ilove about the Hummer is that it's loaded with character. We also have a Honda Odyssey, an exellent van, which is very bland by comparison. I've had the Hummer for about a year and every morning, when I approach it, it makes me smile. Great truck!
