The depth, has to do with the wheel abs sensor, the 2006 h3 is 3 inchs higher, than my H2....,now i installed 35" tires, there about the same.....ive had mine in some 28 inch water w/no issues.....other than some wet disk breaks.....

Read and heard about lots of reasons for the 20-24" the most convincing was the Hummer press release
I know I've been seat high in jeeps, fords and chevys all older than 2003 much deeper than 20inches of water without issue.
I have read also that "20 inches is a lie!" "It'll do much deeper without a problem but Hummer kept it quiet because it could interfere with H1 sales." Not me just sayin it's an opinion.
And I've heard 20inches is all it'll do because none of the electronics are sealed watertight. But I've seen video of plenty of H2's too deep, Most made it a few didn't. but none of them burst into sparks upon contact with 21" of water instantaniously electrocuting driver and occupants.
Your truck...For mine I'll trust Hummer until I need to go through over 20 inches of water to get to the other side and then hope for the best
Refined yet rugged
H2 makes its debut in the truck world as the more "civilized" family member. Its on-pavement manners, including ride comfort, are extremely refined. And it provides all the features and amenities that a premium SUV customer might want. Yet, off-road, it is almost as fiercely utilitarian as its famous progenitors - capable of traveling through streams 20 inches deep, climbing 16-inch steps and rocks, paddling through deep sand and outdistancing competitors in high-speed desert runs.

Electronics have always been sealed, if not those living in high humidity states would see issues. 20" of water on a vehicle which comes stock with 35" tires......lol what a joke. I'd take the thing up to the fender vent for the intake. Keep water out of the intake and you're good to go IMO. Hell I used to take my 1977 Silverado 4x4 up to the doors with a 6" lift and 33" tires. Talk about electronics which aren't sealed lol.

I have had my H3 in water so deep the bottom of the mirrors were making wake and my drl's were lighting up the water.
Keep the water out of the intake and keep moving smoothly.

I wonder if Hummer had concerns that included the EBCM and other electronics mounted under the truck? I'm with you guy's on the 20" seems like a joke! I'll go with keep it out of the intake as a rule when I have too, but then again I might try to keep the carpet dry if I'm just playing.
