Default Grill/Brush Guard question

Can anyone tell me if the OEM Grille Guard that comes on the H3X (square tubing type) is chrome plated steel, or chrome plated stainless steel? Thanks

Not sure what type of metal they are made of. Maybe you can tell from this photo. This BG was broken off by some hooligans by pulling on it.

Thanks Taint....now you got me think'in. I'm considering buying one, but for it to break like that, it would have to be a die cast material. Not the best stuff for strength!

Those H3X brush guards are a 3 piece design that bolts together.
All for show. They don't protect **** !

As a metallurgist here....I doubt will not be stainless steel and it defeats the purpose of chrome plating when you could just polish the stainless to a chrome like appearance. These are chrome plated steel. Puzzling they would fracture like that unless a cast steel and I think for the "X" square shape on the lights they probably are cast rather than a forged section. You could take a magnet to it to confirm if it is an austenitic stainless (ie 304, 316)---no magnetism. Plain steel will be.

Based on the break and lack of ductility...must be cast aluminum (zinc would surprise me even more). Wow that's a poor choice for an "impact" type guard. Again non-magnetic.

Did they leave the pc...does it feel light?

I have come across several broken ones, all of which were OEM and though i'm no metallurgical expert I would bet money it was an aluminum alloy

Let me preface my next comment with the understanding that I do not like chrome or anything polished shiny or highly reflective.

I ordered this for the H3, H3 Search and Rescue Brush Guard by Predator

I have the grown up version on my H2 and H1 from Predator and they are as good as I can get pre-fab, I dont know if I could have something custom made that would be better.

The factory brush guard is no more than something shiny to look at...made from aluminum alloy...crapolino

It was never intended to be an "impact" type guard. It's worthless as protection.
It's a just one of the pieces of bling that make up the H3X.
