Default From the Great White North

Good day all,

Im Ron, and I am a 26 year old lunatic from the prairies of Saskatchewan. Everything I do is part of a master plan to be a little different than the next guy. Therefore, I feel I need to have an H1. That being said, I have been in the automotive industry since before I could drive, and I know (somewhat) what I would be getting myself into. I have been lurking on this forum for quite a while, and you all seem like a bunch of decent cats. Very helpful and informative. Just so you are all aware, I have cross reference manuals dating back to the 50s, and anything I can help with, I will be glad to do so. Looking forward to any discussions I may get caught up in. Thanks.

Peace.

Well, it is gonna be a while before I get into one, maybe next summer. Im looking to spend 40-50K, so I think Im being fairly realistic. Anyone in these forums from Canada? Id kinda like to know how the H1's deal with -30C tempuratures. I know the diesels can deal with it, but I admit, I am not too familiar with the braking setups and such. I want to do as much research as I can. It will be my daily driver, but I am also aware they can be an expensive mistress, so I will have a backup vehicle. Plus, I drive like an idiot, so I plan on spending alot on parts. I will also be doing alot of the repairs myself, because I feel if I am going to break it, I damn well better be able to fix it. Any warnings/advice on what I have to look forward to?

Welcome to the forum. Not sure about Canadian owners but I have bought a few H1 parts from Canada. I guess at -30 a block heater is mandatory.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah, block heaters are a given. Gotta love the Canadian winters. Thats one of the reasons I want an H1. Plus they are big, fat and obnoxious, just like me. LOL. Right now Im driving a Cadillac Fleetwood, and its dealing with winter pretty well, but nothing beats a big, bad 4x4 in the snow. I bet I can even make some dough pulling Hondas out of snowbanks. Theres a good way to justify the purchase. Its for the benefit of everyone on the road. Yeah, thats it.
