I am new to Hummer Forum, and also new to my 2006 H3. I purchased it 6 mos. ago and both front diff. seals are leaking,where the half shafts enter. I took it to my local dealer and was told the front Diff. has to be droped out of the vehicle to repair(to the sum of 1400.00)I have done many axel and shaft seals over the years, but new to the hummer..It appears that if I were to remove the half shafts that the seal is external..I would like to change them and the bearings..also looking for a repair manual that covers this vehicle..if it doesnt cost my first born. any help is appreciated

 

The dealer is trying to rob you.

As long as it is the 1/2 shaft seals all you have to do is remove the 1/2 shafts, carefully remove the old seals and carefully replace them and don't nick then when you put the 1/2 shafts back in.

There are a few posts on here about what is needed and how-to r&r half shafts on an H3. If you can't find them PM me.

 

Thank u Tainter, you have restored my confidence..without having a repair manual it makes it difficult. I did not want to go on sight alone cause it always that 1 little clip or bolt you didnt see that turns the job into a project so to speek

I just got 4 of them - good parts to throw in your tool/parts kit, along with a spare half shaft and tie rods when you go wheeling.
