end of steering shaft problems
Hello everyone!
there is a nice write up regarding the steering shaft issues we are having with our H3's in FOUR WHEELER mag june 08.
itsays that all the clunking and banging that is going on is due to the designof thefactory part and that the "new"updated part that GM came up with is just a "lube kit"which the dealers used to fix the problem short term.
apparently GMcame up with a new design in 07 but by the looks of things it is no better.
BORGESON steering components www.borgeson.com have built a quality looking alternative to the original which according to the mag is a permanent fix.
there is also a detailed write up on how to remove and fit the new part.
i hope this part will fit my RHD H3!

RE: end of steering shaft problems
I called them and spoke to Jeff...he was really nice. It is the upper steering shaft that causes the problem. It is the piece that goes through the firewall and into the lower steering column. The bearing that GM made is no good, so they pack grease into it to keep it quiet....once the grease wears out, it starts to knock again. They just don't have a good part......that works.
Jeff said he would check into it, and see if they are listing one for the H3's. He said right now they are only listing for the H2 heavy duty trucks.

Automotive parts would soon worn out. And either it would be needing some fixing or a replacement. Steering shaft problems is not that much of an issue of H3, Seen some parts for replacement on an online shop(see pick up truck). Haven't tried purchasing from it, but the reviews seems to be all good.
