My '06 did exactly this same thing just after I had spent the day jamming all over the interstate throughout Vegas in traffic. Turned out to be something defective in the switch for the brake lights at the pedal. Meaning---I had no brake lights!!
I rolled into HUMMER and they swapped it out in no time. Seems like they knew there was an issue, but they didn't say anything, just sent me on my way. It would have sucked if somebody would have rear ended me in rush hour traffic. Good luck---

I went thru the exact process you did.
First was, Traction Failed, took it to the dealer and they changed a connector on the transfer case.
Second visit, after another "traction failed" they replaced the encoder motor or whatever it was called. This was the final fix and I haven't had a failure in over two years
I'm sure GM only wants to fix or replace these items on a need to basis.
The vehicle is very drivable with a failed traction code, you just can't shift to 4H lock or 4L
Have you ever owned a vehicle that didn't have something go wrong and always at a inconvenient time ?
Me too.

thanks guys. I got her back today and was told that they "talked to tech support and its a program upgrade that I need". so we will see. 1100 miles and I don't like leaving it in the shop, she's mine mine mine!
