Default Dyno Mat - H3 Sub Enclosure

https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=16173

After reading the thread on the above link, about replacing the stock paper 8” sub with a aftermarket JL Sub, and just solder the wires from the existing Amp to the new Sub.

I also thought why not completely wrap the inside of the Rear side panel where the Sub is with Dyno mat. – I am thinking it would act as a Sub enclosure and it will be done if I ever decide to go with a separate Amp and Larger sub.

The JL enclosure is like $ 750 bucks, I can Dyno Mat for a lot less.

Just looking for feed back, what you think?

I would just Dyno Mat the outside of the factory sub enclosure itself and then cover that layer with another layer of foam where possible. The idea is to kill as much resonance as possible from the enclosure.

For the quarter panel and trunk trim panel, play an audio test CD with low frequency sweep tones and address panel vibration issues only where needed. Apply adhesive backed felt, foam, and plastic mastic for this, usually between panels where they touch each other or the body. You can gain a lot by doing this throughout the interior too, especially the doors.

You'll be surprised at how much this will clean up the sound.

(If you didn't already buy a new Sub driver, pick one based on recommended box size for the swap. Measure and estimate the best you can the factory Sub enclosure, this will take some time because they're oddly shaped. When buying the replacement, look for one that matches as close as possible your cubic foot calculation from your box. This will help you to avoid peaky, one-note-bass response. Don't get hung up on cone material, it's the overall speaker design including voice coil and driver motor quality that's most important.)

edit: A Sub needs to be mounted in a strong box, no way will you be happy with the results from just lining interor trim and using that for an enclusure.

i don't know if any of you guys are into making boxes but if you are, i just built a tonneau cover for my old classic. the construction would be the same way just would look different as you would have a different shape,

it wasn' really hard to build, more time consuming imo
