I will be doing a similar trip next week in my first hummer. NY to CO!

 

Don't push the accelerator hard on the climbs. The truck won't go any faster and will dump unburned fuel out the exhaust. They are old technology so they do smoke some under load. If you are doing some climbing 12 mpg isn't bad. You can average 14 on flat highway. Let us know if it smokes staying off the skinny pedal.

We are in Mitchell SD right now about to head east. We will be on i90 through Ohio, I think that's the northern most route anyway. Might get there tonight or tommorow. Anyone that would like to meet us on route as we continue to NH can call me at 603-312-2142. That would be cool.

We were trying to think of a charity or good cause to ride for but didn't come up with anything (ideas welcome) we thought it might make the news if we said we were driving to promote energy conservation. When people tell us that it doesn't make sense to drive the hummer to promote energy conservation we would tell them that the current US energy policies don't make sense either. We thought the paradox of it might be fun anyway.

 

Worried that your bonding experience may end on the 'worse' side. Top tools I'd recommend for a trip like this are cash and an experienced H1 tech. A lot of times it's not know-how so much as bizarre parts that you can't find everywhere.

600 miles should put you at il/in tonite! if you stay at il/in tonite ill buy breakfast and drive to ohio with you. how about michigan city ind tonite ,,i know a terrific rib place,great real fries!! near la porte motels. dine on me!

michigan city holiday inn you can see from interstate 80. ez on ez off! la porte turnpike exit is near motels and the rib place

hummer 1 entered iowa and might make indiana tonight. they guess gary by midnight,possibly sooner.
if that holds up well have breakfast and ill trail them for a while so we can call it a convoy!!
