I'd give a 100hp away in a heartbeat to have 100ftlb more torque dropped to around 1200 rpm. But, I came from driving a 35004x4 dodge dually with a cummins and a 6spd so I like the grunt. Funny thing is they both get the same mileage (~17). What the H3 needs is a little 4cylinder inline diesel...then it would be completely awesome (and probably get about 28mpg).

I would like to see it with a 4.0 I-5 and more torque and I would think it would be just right 275 HP with 320 ft-lbs, and not kill mpg. This vehicle is more a bruiser than a crusier. I'm happy with the 3.7.

I think alot of people seem to agree that the Alpha is not worth the extra money. Especially since there not a big telling difference after calculating the extra weight the alpha also has. I put it this way, unless you tow something heavy? Go with the I5. You'll save money and gas. As for the highway passing, have u ever been going about 50 and pushed all the way down on the pedal? The I5 takes off!!

RE: do you think the I 5 is underpowered for the h3?
I took the H3 out to Colorado to do some skiing this winter (live in Chicago) and when 2 of us split gas - it was actually cheaper than flying! In any case - the I5 really had problems keeping up with traffic on I70 doing 70-80 mph up the mountain passes. If AM General had put a 5 or 6 speed trans in the truck it would be waaaaay better in those situations and you could keep the truck in the power band much easier. I really want to trailer my motorcycles out to ride some canyons but am afraid I'll blow the engine up seeing as how much it struggled with just two of us and our ski gear.
I love the truck but am afraid it will dissappoint when put to the test. Has anyone towed 3-4000 lbs in the mountains with their I5 H3? Does anyone have any suggestions for improving HP enough to make this application work? Many thanks team.

I will drag (pun?) you and both your 300Cs anywhere anytime, just put snow, ice, dirt, mud, sand, rocks, water, logs, add a grade if you like, and you're toast.
Comparing a 300c to a Hummer, would belike me comparingmy favorite Olds, to your 300C. You'd be the one that is extremely slow and underpowered.
Almost like comparing a Harley to a Vespa, just not the same product use there Biff.
I would not be braggin on Daddy given you ahummer either, if you know what I mean. [:'(]
