Aftermarket thats for sure, not stock..

Could be a oil filter or trans filter..

Trace the lines from the filter to where they originate, then you will be able to find out what it is, as far as you servicing it, if you don't know what it is, i would leave the servicing to a pro...

Tranny filter would be a good guess, could easily tee off the lines to run a secondary filter.

However, my money would be an engine oil relocation. Given how much of a PITA it is to change the filter and not make a mess that would be my guess. I've actually looked into doing the same thing, mounted on the bottom however by a frame rail. However, I cannot find a correct relocation plate to mount in place of the filter.

Trace the lines back and let us know which one it is!

Highly doubt, that it is oil, if you looked at the picture, it shows the filter on the passengers side of the vehicle, normally you would install the relocated filter on the same side as stock filter, less hose that can get damaged or in the way of other components. .

Wouldn't that be a **** poor way to mount either an oil filter or a tranny filter? As soon as you crack it you have fluid all over.

I agree with the last 2 comments. Like I said, given how damn messy it is to change the oil filter I would relocate mine. Obviously a better job mounted below with stainless braided line for safety but you never know in this case.

How about follow the lines and see where they go? that would be the best answer to what it is?
Trans filter, engine oil filter, coolant filter?
