Default Dispell this H2 Stereo Myth

Okay, so I'm wanting to replace the OEM stereo in my ride (which I'm not sure why, cuz I love the sound) because I want a DVD player in. I was told that if I'm replacing the deck, that EVERYTHING has to be changed all at once. And that Ican't replace just my speakers first because the factoty Bose system won't drive anything other than 2 ohm speakers! Was this BS from the stereo place? Or am I gonna have to suck it up and do everything all at once???

total BS, even if your bose system is bridged to a 2 ohm load, you can run that 2 ohm load into a good set of coaxils or component set. It's not like your pushing a ton of wattage that will blow the voice-coils.

I think what the installer was probably reffering to is that if you change the head-unit that you will lose the amp and thus lose the door speakers as well....but there is an adapter you can buy that will make the new headunit work with the factory amp/speakers.

Thanks brother! I figured there was something I could do. And no, he full on said "You can't replace the speakers without replacing the head unit and all the wiring." Guess he was...incorrect.

Total BS.

I bought a Hummer H2 5 months ago and it had a clarion deck with Bose speakers and I went to a couple of car stereo outlets and they tried to sell me new deck and speakers. I didn't want the Clarion system in there. I bought a new Sony XAV601BT system. The Geek Squad put it in and I still have the Bose speakers. Perfect sound.

Most of those car stereo outlets are trying to sell stuff.

Ditto on the previous posts. I replaced my 06 OEM Touchscreen Nav with a Kenwood unit and I wish I had done it sooner. Sounds better than the original, garmin nav is top notch and the bluetooth, phone, ipod, pandora interfaces are excellent. This would be my first suggested upgrade to any new H2 owner.
