RE: Dash Mounted GPS
Good decision. Built-ins cost X3 or X4 and will probably be obsolete and unsupported before the truck is paid off. A self-contained unit can go with you on trips. Screen size, brightness, ease of use (while driving) are critical. There's a huge variety of units on the market. I strongly suggest investing some time in studying GPS features and how you'll use a unit before buying. There's lots of GPS info on the web.
I'd personally stick with Garmin or Magellan. GPS is their primary business, they support their stuff, and software for their units is widely available at fairly reasonable cost. You'll probably want to update or add to the map data in the future, and availability/cost of map data software for the other makes can be outrageous...if you can find it. And some use inaccurate or outdated maps.
If you want offroad tracking, you'll need a unit that can use maps on a memory card so you can load topographic maps and log your trail routes. I'm not really sure if any of the automotive units can do this.
