I've never replaced one all that I have come across have been covered under warranty. However it shouldn't be to hard to replace.
There is a bolt on either end that will need to be removed (one at the steering gear end and the other at the column end) and then
the shaft should collapse (this is where you are getting the clicking noise and feel in the wheel) The ends are splined and there is a blind spline
so you won't have to worry about alignment. CAUTION: once the shaft is removed DO NOT turn the steering wheel. There is a clock spring
under the steering wheel that can be damaged if the wheel is turned to many rotations. As far as price goes I can't help you there.
