Default Clamshell Wheel Cover is how much?

Got tapped by a semi-truck last week and he dented/cracked my hard, clamshell cover that came with the my orange 2007 H3x. Lucky it wasn't worse and all that, but I just got a quote on replacement for the thing and $1315.00 was the figure from insurance. Called the dealer and they said the same. I said holy !*#! for the second time. Seems a bit ridiculous.

I removed my clam shell carrier. It has very small dent in it. I never liked it enough to repair it.

Yea, I don't think I'm going to replace it. I doubt if the new larger tires I'll be eventually buying will fit inside anyway. And there's a lot to be said for the more traditional 4X4 Hummer look with just the uncovered wheel on the back, especially when you dish out $1500+ for 5 nice new tires.

Come winter I will be putting back the cheapo vinyl wheel cover, it does keep the grime off the tire and wheel.

I kept it off all summer and I like the look of that naked tire.

Thats insane that it cost that much. but that figures for gm parts. I also took mine off and think it looks alot better. Had to show off the powder coated spare. I think its pretty mean lookin with the spare showing especially with an agressive tire. I just got factory wranglers but hope to put some duratracs on soon.

Chameleon, and tac3, that's true with the snow and salt, a cover is a good idea. I think I'll keep the dented cover on till spring.

I'm with ya on the naked tire. I still got enough tread on the stock 265/65-18 tires to get me through another Michigan winter so, but when spring comes, I'm looking at some 325/65-18 AT tires (assuming they will fit?).

Not without some addon's! I put 315/75/16's x 5 on mine about two months ago. Not prob in the rear. The front would rub the str. stab. bar's if you were turn really tight and hold it there. I went back and added 1/4 wheel spacers on all four corners. It almost stopped it completely. I should have gone with 1/2 probably and it would have completely stopped it. Right now If I turn really tight and hold it t just barely rubs enough that I can tell it. The 315/75/16 mounted on my spare carrier no prob and really looks good back there. The 325/65/16's will be even worse. I put a front leveling kit on mine to bring up the frt. end and level it out. Good luck and tell us what you end up doing... PICS too!!

Slumlord, did you torque your torsion mounts and raise the front end up? My wheels are 18" stock from the H3x, hence the tires will be 325/65/18. Usually these are real close to 35". With the torsion lift, it should fit, but I could be wrong.

There was a deep scratch in our clam shell from the previous owner when we bought our orange H3 from Orlando. They said it would be $1500 to buy a new one...then a few months later we went to Miami and a valet parker reversed into a wall with it...so they paid the $895 to have the whole cover repainted by the GM dealership in town. GM did an awesome job and now the tire cover looks brand new again. Thanks Miami for backing my truck into a wall!
