Question Chrome Hummer Fuel Door cover..weird question

Where is a good place to get a replacement? Mine seems to be broken and won't stay shut; It will spring open but no tension to keep it shut so when I make turns or park downhill, it falls open. Anyone else had this issue or can this be fixed?

It can easily be fixed, there is a little spring that holds the tension. Open the door a crack (about 1/2") and push down on the end that pivots. While pushing in, slide the door towards the rear of the vehicle and the door should separate. If the spring is bad or broke, it should come apart extremely easy. If it wasn't it would require a little more effort and you would have to be careful as to not loose the spring. There will be two little plastic cups/caps and the spring is inside there. Replace the spring and reverse the disassembly process

Thanks SundownAudioNY! I will give it a try later this evening or tomorrow. I was hoping that the entire thing didn't need replaced as these covers are expensive! This is was on the truck when I bought it; pretty sure it's the GM fuel door cover as my truck has the chrome mirrors, handles, nerf bars...

I have pics on my computer from when I disassembled the one I had to powdercoat it. I will try and upload them this afternoon and post them for you. Sounds like a GM door as that's the only one that I can think of that holds tension to stay closed (most aftermarket lock or latch and that's how they stay closed).

Question

I see that black cap when I open it and always wondered if it was spring loaded. I thought that mine might be froze inwards. I'll try and post a pic later. Does the cap just pull off once I take the fuel door off?

Yep, cap just pulls off to expose the spring

Any clue as to whether I can purchase a replacement cap and spring? I kinda ruined the cap with trying to pry it off; got holes poked all in it. was able to pull the cap forward but not off in order to expose the spring.
