Admmitidly I have done this as well. I was 20 and Beers where involved. It was in my Duragno. My speek was about 45mph. It just stalled the motor. I was able to put it back into Neutral while still rolling and start it back up. Did not miss a beat.

Do me, yourself, and GF a favor, check the transmission fluid. Does it look brown/dark or smell burnt, is it at the right level.
If you have Onstar, run a diagnostic check, if nothing comes up, drive it and forget about it. If you have a code, what she did will not be covered by warranty, so mums the word!!! What happened? "I don't know, it just isn't working right."
Next, teach your GF how to drive. [sm=icon_rtfm.gif] There is no such thing as coasting!!! In many ststes it is illegal to coast. Duh!!
That is why ATs have a P for PARK,D for DRIVE, and R for REVERSE. Neutral is for being towed at the most, really stands for NOT MOVING, definitely not C for Coast.
You may not wanna kick her (especially if she lOOks gOOd), but she don't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer.
