Default RE: CB mounting location

I have two solutions to mount a full-size radio. Niether are CB's but the ideas should work no matter.

One is a scanner suctioned to the bottom of the windsheild. I added a couple of rubber feet to the bottom of the scanner so much of the radio's weight is on the dash. The suction cup is a HD one from RAM Mount

The second one is a VHF radio on a pedestal that bolts to the passenger seat frame. My goal was to have no holes drilled and no mods to the vehicle. This pedestal was pieced together from RAM components. RAM makes a seat mount specifically for the H3. I bought each peice one at a time to see how it would fit. If I was smarter, I prolly could have figured it out on paper first

I bought all my RAM stuff from GPS City in Nevada. Good prices and fast shipping. Google for web address.

I did the same antenna mount as Tinked. I found I wasnt getting a good ground though so I ran a wire to the ground of the wiper motor in the door. I also put a quick disconnect and I have a removable solution with about a 8+ mile range (out the back..about half that if they are in front of me)

As for the "75 compare to the typical cheap full size CB" comment...it should be exactly the same. All CB's no matter how expensive will transmit and receive at the same power rating. The extra cost is for the bells and whistles like noise canceling and built-in SWR meters. Bottom line, you'll get the same signal coming into a cheap CB as you will an expensive one. You will be better off spending your time and money picking a technically sound antenna setup.

Oh yeah... my CB is just under the drivers seat with just the mic coming up between the seat and console. I put an external speaker tucked up under the drivers side dash. You cant see a thing if you want to keep the stock look, not drill any holes and it works great.

I like the location Steve #1 posted.
I like it too, but with the sunroof, it's impossible.

Running the handheld 75 and a couple firestick antennas. I use a 3' on the trail but hear a fair bit of noise I don't like and a 5' on the hwy that gets great, clear reception. I have a mirror mount setup on my grill guard and ran the cable through the firewall. For range, the antenna being on the front seems to be balanced out by the roof rack blocking some of the signal to the rear, especially with the shorter antenna.

I mounted mine on a metal strap attached to my spare tire carrier. It allows the antenna to be offset to clear the rear wiper.
