Default BW4494 parts?

We bought a 2006 H3 with 34,000 miles three weeks ago. We left for a 1,200 mile trip to Colorado from Indiana on Sunday. 3 hours into the trip, we started hearing a loud clicking noise whenever the drivetrain was under load. Now it's Thursday. We have been stranded in St. Louis since Sunday after finding out the transfer case chain was stretched, which destroyed both sprockets. Local dealership (certified Hummer mechanics) can't get the parts to repair. Anybody on here have any experience with the Borg Warner 4494 and locating parts? We love our H3... but if a $1,700 repair can render her useless for good after only 34,000 miles due to lack of parts... we are starting to regret the purchase!

i have wondered if you could remove the front driveshaft and just go 2 wheeling???
the tc goes straight thru to rear if not totally trashed.

the chain gets that way from driving on dry pavement in a lock mode, hard to say who did it,,,

Default Thanks for you input!

I suspected that to be the case. We checked the carfax on the vehicle prior to purchasing (our mechanic checked it out also and gave it a thumbs-up prior to purchasing). The only thing that made us leary was the fact that the previous owner only had it for 9 months, and it spent more than a year sitting (less than 500 miles in 14 months). We suspect it was a repo, and the original owner trashed it knowing the bank was coming to get it. This is the first Hummer we have owned, but certainly not the first 4x4... I know enough about them not to run in 4 lock on dry pavement. Curious if the original owner had that knowledge, or was simply out to 'get even' with the bank for demading their money? I guess we will never know! On a brighter note... I just got a call from the dealership. They located the parts to repair the t-case. Is now a $2,400 repair estimate... but at least she will be good for more than a yard ornament again!

Should have no trouble finding a used transfer case 550-600 on ebay. Usually about 4-5 hours of labor time to swap it out. 1k beats 2400 any day.

Contact theBroken on this forum, (or at Ridge Demon) I am sure he can get you a low miles T Case, he might even be able to get a line on the parts at a much better price?

With a broken or missing shaft the only way the vehicle is moving is in 4HI or 4LO and that's never a good idea for any extended distance on pavement.

Take it from me, I broke a half shaft at a charity car crush event and with no trail spare on hand ended up trailering my H3 back home.

It'll move, but if you want to drive it any kind of distance like that be my guest.
