Buying H1 Looking for a Resource
I have looked around the forum, read "point me in the right direction" and still want more.
Has anyone listed problems/things to check by year? Used H1 Buyers Guide? I have search the web too and come up empty handed.
My business will be buying one for me to drive and I am good to do some repairs, I just dont want to have to fix something every month.
Is one year/engine/body style better than another? I do not want to off-road...much but dont drive like a grandma. I am known to drive over and around thinks I probably should not.
BTW found : Buying a used Hummer on FlashOR

RE: Buying H1 Looking for a Resource
The 98 will have the dual tanks. There were only a few non CTIS trucks made. 97-01 had the #8 cyclinder problem with most of them being in the 97-98 trucks. Most bad blocks were replaced by the 30000 mile mark. The 98 has the upgraded HVAC and does not have TT4 so that is a good combination. Go to:
www.lynchhummer.com Click on Used H1s and then go to model year changes and then H1. You will get a choice of each year of Hummer made. Each file will have specifics for that year from production numbers/options etc.

RE: Buying H1 Looking for a Resource
The resource at Lynch is good, do you think I can be that picky when I'm looking for a used 98? I would be lucky to find what I'm looking for in the right color!
Also, I want to know if there are any other major technical faults...or just annoying problems with the 98's. The Used Guide at Flash Off Road was amazing but didnt get model specific.
For a 98 Turbo Diesel, my research tells me $30,000 reasonable for under 50K mi...anyone think otherwise?

I think that is optimistic. Really nice 98 wagons are selling in the low 40s. Ones showing some wear are in the high 30s. You buy one for 30K expect to put some money into it. The open tops sell a little cheaper than the wagons if price is an issue for you.

Go onto www.cars.com Input hummer h1 and search all for radius within your zip code. I drove 250 miles to purchase my hummer and I feel I got the deal of the year a 2001 H1 wagon with 46k miles for 45k My hummer is super clean no scratches came with the snorkel front windshield bar with the piaa lights and all the undercarriage protection including the .25 thick sheetmetal floor protectors. Not to mention the huge d ring mount front brush guard and leather interior. I did see a H1 wagon on craigslist in seattle for 21k it has a new engine in 05 high mileage I think it stated 160k. If I remember right it was a 96. Good luck and lucky you that your work is buying it that is awesome are they hiring lol!
