Default Bumpstops and Squeaking?

Ok guys, prior to posting this I ran a couple searches and now I am not entirely sure.

I was under my 3 today and I noticed that the bumpstops do not touch.

Should the front end be resting on the bumpstops?

Also, when I am driving, I can hear this annoying squeaking during turns and bumps, etc. Not the bushings. I am fairly certain that is coming from the leaf springs. I know a few of you have/had similar issues and was wondering what you did to fix. & why shouldn't I spray them with WD-40, or some other lubricant?

Hey buddy,
I believe if you have leveled your truck then the bump stops no longer touch. Thats why some of the "leveling kits" come with the new extended bump stops. It isnt necessary for them to touch but I believe that if they are touching then your ride may be alittle smoother and not have so much front end dive when you break. Mine do not touch either but it isnt anything to worry about. all personal preference.

As far as the rear leafsprings go, I make a point to hit clean them well with the high-pressure wash at the carwash which usually eliminates any squeaking for awhile. Force the spray between the leafs from both sides.

Using any type of lube on them will only attract dirt and grime which will actually promote the squeaking.

Default Squeaky Leaf Springs

Yeah I'm probably going to hit them with the pressure washer tomorrow and see how it improves...

So in essence, to avoid attracting more dirt and grime by using some sort of lube, I'm thinking that I should stay away from oil based products. What do you guys think if I used some kind of graphite spray lube or DuPont teflon spray?

If you had to use a lube I'd think graphite would be best, but a thorough powerwashing usually eliminates any squeaking for quite awhile.

They are bump stops...

When you hit a bump they stop the frame from damage.

On the front of the H3 the jounce bumpers are actually designed to rest on the lower control arm at ride height and are an integral part of the suspension system that keeps the front end from diving when braking They help create a smoother ride than absorbsion properties of the torsion bars alone. They really have nothing to do with protection. The independent front suspension on the H3 would not make contact with the frame even if you remove the bumpers and their mounts completely.
