BROKE MY TIE ROD-with my 35's Has anyone mod the 16m new oneS?
Didn't even get on the trail........My question is this: sinceHummer knows its a known issue and they started making the beefer ones knowing they were weak would this be covered under warranty?
Thank GOD we were close tohome and got the welder and welded a pieceto the tie rod to get me home....Bad thing is I didn't even get to wheel and as you can tellby the pics it was a dirt road... SO has any out there made a mod for the Tie Rod to make even the 16 mm new one more stronger...
As it is...we are not off road worthy .....to wheel with 35's......STUPIED!!

Did they upgrade them? I knew this was a wink link, but I didn't know Hummer had addressed it with any upgrades. If they did, how do you know you have the upgraded ones or not?

New upgrade Tie Rodsare black, old ones are silver. I just got a call from someone that found an article thatHummer is replacing the Tie Rods under warranty he is sending me the link, I will post it up when I get it....But in all actuality....going from a 14 to a 16m is that really going to make a difference, or do I need to come up with some kind of modification for the 16...like a slip sleeve or something to strengthen it, but that could make it break at the thread under pressure.....so something to think about....

I busted a 14mm tie rod one one of my first outings with the new 35"s. Hummer replaced both under warranty with 16mm tie rods. Best thing you can do is carry a spare tie rod or two. I'm not sure if busting tie rods on H3's has something to do with the oversized tires or the increased traction. Both times I've seen a tie rod bend have been on the exact same terrrain you were on, Tinked. A steep grade with loose rock is what usually does it. The front end will start to bounce trying to get traction, then wammo - you're H3 is pigeon-toed. [:@]I'm hoping the front locker in 2009 models will improve matters. Great job on the improvising a fix to get you off the trail.

I'm not positive but I think the mid year 2007's have the upgraded tie rods. Seems like they made a lot of changes during that time frame.
