Brand new never asked before question on tires.
I have read all the posts on tires but still have one question.
I am looking at putting 315/75 16s on my stock black/black Adventure I5 Automatic H3T. I like the BFG K2s but they seem pretty expensive. I am leaning now to Goodyear Duratracs. I notice they are E rated as compared to D rated for most of the others and understand what this means.
The question is this. I want to air down at my shop then pull my 18' center console boat (with a 90 hp on it) 2 miles down a local street to the beach where I launch it across the sand. Then after pulling the boat out drive 2 miles back before parking the boat and using my big air compressor to air back up. The sand can be pretty soft on the beach with a uphill climb if it is low tide. I have a system of chains ready and a wheel on the front of the trailer where I can put the truck up on the pavement and tug the trailer out but its a pain. I am wondering what air pressure will give me the best traction in sand and still be ok for a short street run (30 mph)? Also, do you think the stronger sidewall in an E rated tire will help with this?
By the way I have been doing this for years with the stock 285 Duelers. They have 76,000 miles on them and are finally worn out but still quiet. Not a bad tire.

Welcome.
Did not bother to READ this before posting your first time ever question in the "H3 Frequently Asked Questions" did ya?

Everybody at Silver Lake Sand Dunes runs back & forth to the dunes from their accommodations without airing up. Been doing it for 30+ years on all kinds of trucks/tires. I run 12-14PSI in the front and 11-12 PSI in the rears. Same deal, couple miles at low speed.

The beaches here can be sand but also can be berms of pure pebbles about the size of peas or marbles rolled round by the surf Like driving on ball bearings. I have found in those conditions with lockers more aggressive tread helps as long as you are very easy on the gas pedal and are careful not to let them dig in. We also get deep snow on occasion and our new house will be on the end of a long private road that may not get plowed right away. I like the 4 wheel lockers on my Adventure much better than the traction system on our Land Rover. The stock Duelers were better on the pebble beach when they had more tread.
Tounge weight of my trailer is maybe 200 pounds and I have about 150 pounds of chains in the bed. I hope the E series tires will let me drive the 2 mile trip from my shop to the beach and then back again with about 15lbs of air. I will probably only go 30 mph.

I run 315/75/16 Duratrac's and they have been fine on the beaches and sand trails in Rhode Island.
When we go to the offroad park in PA we all drive about 10 miles back to the hotel at the end of each day with no problems at about 15-20 lbs.

Just an update. I just got the new Duratrac 315/75 16s put on. They seem just as quiet as the pretty worn (75k) Duelers. The fit on my H3T without leveling and I so far do not notice much difference in ride or how it drives. I am light on the gas anyway. We will see about the gas mileage. So far I am very happy.
