Agreed on this, if your brakes have no been serviced yet just turn the rotors. Alternatively buy new ones, turn the old ones, and put them away for your next maintenance. Of course that depends on how long you plan on having the vehicle.

I think AC Delco makes sets of ceramic pads for our truck. So you can get stock in ceramic.. the best of both worlds. That's prolly the route I'm going to go when it's time for my brakes to serviced.
I'm sure they're more costly than A Z ones but hey, if it gives you piece of mind it may be worth it.

Well my rear brakes are making the loud groaning/scraping sound again! Had the rotors turned about 2 years ago for this same problem, which GM has recognized as a defect. I've only got 18k miles on my H3. I'm ready to do battle with the dealership if some kind of 'permanent' fix isn't put into place (new rotors, ceramic pads, etc., etc.). I don't plan on going through this every 10k miles until my warranty runs out!
