Brakes

i would never take my car in for a brake job, it is so easy even replacing rotors. I jutst don't trust anyone. I took my car in for tranny flush, afterwards guy says, man your brakes are shot, cracked pads, down to the metal and you need to rotors.
i went home and looked... everything was fine, seriously, all four wheels had good solid , smooth rotors, and brake pads all had at least 1/3 inch of pad left. ( the front pads are slotted, he probably looked at the slot and went yea --ch ching $$$

I would suggest (as the other 2 posters did) changing the pads yourself. You may not even need rotors! If you do it is not a very hard process. You will also save $ and learn a lot. Someday you can help a buddy/wife/stripper change theirs!
For pads get the OEM pads, they are very good. You got over 70K on the last set!!!
There are a few posts on here about changing the pads.

You can buy the factory ceramic pads on amazon for 40 and change per axle, I picked them up earlier this week mine are at 74k and about due.
Throw them in your ama cart and come back in a couple hours amazon will lower the price for you.
If your rotors are grooved or have ridges take them down to an auto parts store they usually charge 10-12 per rotor to cut, If they are smooth leave them alone put your pads in and go. H3 is about the easiest brake job to do next to a bicycle.

Buy the factory manual with all the money you just saved and you still come out quite a bit ahead.
I love brake jobs, easy money.

Sounds like "My mechanic"(your guy) is taking you for a ride on the HUMMER tax train. What is the "issue" with your rotors that makes them "arnt worth cutting"??? Did he mic the rotors and/or mic the grooves and then show you the "limits" of the rotor and tell you they "couldn't be turned" or did he just look at them and say your "rotors arnt worth cutting"?

It was Chevy dealer who said$275 for front, and $275 for backs, plus cut rotors. My Mechanic said its cheaper to just replace rotors, $600 for everything. Guess if i was to do it , might as well go for the new rotors, for $50 more?
