Has anyone had to replace their brake pads yet? If so... At what mileage? I'm at 14K+ miles and am starting to hear a grinding noise coming from the passenger side rear rotor. I would have thought that the fronts would have worn down first.

Also... I normally do my own brakes... I bought a shop manual and haven't looked yet, but is this a labor intensive job with this being a 4X4? Anything I need to look out for?

hey rick i had that same problem at about the same milage, is it an intense sound when you brake hard, i had to take mine to the shop for a week for them to replace the whole brake assembly, and it came from the rear left.

 

Did they put up a fight about it? Did they question you a lot or did it make the same sound for them? What was the issue???

This is a weird grinding sound that only happens in the last second of heavy braking. Light braking doesn't make it happen. If I slam on the brakes... everything works great... except for the grinding noise I hear in the last 1 second of the stop. It sounds exactly like a grinding pad... But I don't see any damage to the rotor!?

 

GM has a few bad batches of Brake pads..They kinda get sticky but won't affect braking performance...Kinda like rubbing your thumb across the top of a smooth desk real fast..Make your thumb sorta skips or shudders... can't think of a better description
