Default Winter

I have read varying opinions on KOs in the snow. I live in Ohio so that means a decent snowfall each year. When people say these are bad tires in the snow is that in comparison to true dedicated snow tires or other AT tires? I would think they would be better than the RTS (which I didn't think were that bad in the snow.)

Unfortunately I cant compare them to the stock RTS because I never drove those in the snow. My feeling is that they dont perform as well on the H3 as they have for me on other vehicles. I don't think they are a bad tire, just maybe not the best for those of us in the northern climates.

i run P285/75/16 all terrain bfg tires on my 2006 HUMMER H3 and if you simply take a look on the actual tire, you will see PSI MAX IS 65....that would a bouncy ride and not very confortable...i run them at 48 psi and i like the ride....that tech that told you to run them at 35 psi is looking at the sticker in the door....those psi measurments are for your old 265/75/16 tires....you would think the tech would of known that.....i am just about to put on a set of p295/75/16 on my chrome rims for the summer....i use the BFG 285/75/16 IN THE WINTER AND WILL RUN THE NEW P295/75/16 BFG ALL TERRAINS IN THE SUMMER....TAKE CARE.

Bigger tires make your odometer and your speedometer show fewer miles and slower speed than you are actually doing, thus making your mileage appear lower.

A GPS is a simple way to check all that out. Or, if you are a mathematician, you can calculate from the loaded radius data provided by the tire manufacturers.

I'm running BFG 285 A/T KO i'm on my second set .. PSI @ 36 very smooth i get TPM warning signal " Low tire" when they get close to 30 psi ...
This tires are perfect fit for the H3 ...SUN or MUD or SNOW ..
I like the Goodyear Wrangler Mud terrain for more agressive off road-dirt road use.

Never use the tire pressure as listed on the sidewall - that is only a maximum value. The tire pressure on the door sticker and/or owner's manual is a much better guide, even if you modify it a bit based on experience - obviously not above the sidewall maximum.

I had AT KO's on my old Nissan Xterra and liked them but I never had to drive on snow. I have 285/75/R16 Duratracs on my H3 and have been very happy with them. They are a bit noisier than the KO's but a lot better in mud. I have always found 38 psig is good for road use.

Thats good to know it gets hot here, 131 F / 55C in summer but not as hot as the sun for sure, but more than hot enough.......

I have the BFG AT KO 285/75/16 they go well in the sand, run them between 35-40psi on roads and at 10-11psi in the sand....they last very well...

Or get on the highway and compare 5-10 miles worth of mile markers to your odometer.

I'm surprised to hear people saying BFG AT/KOs are no good in snow. They have the snowflake symbol (in most sizes anyway) and have gotten good reviews for ice/snow from what I've seen. I ran them on a couple of my Jeeps, but I was living just outside of Miami FL at the time so no snow.

As others have said, the PSI rating on the tire is max pressure. Use stock recommended psi as a starting point and adjust up/down from there.
