Better gas mileage anyone?

There is some old guard that cant be swayed and there are different types of engineers and there are obviously many different opinions. Just like who's oil & gas is the best.

I also had not seen the post of who the guy was that made that claim, but it may be an older one before the switch to the newer fluids. Actually some bottles of the ATF 4 & 5 now say on them that they are compatible replacements for atf 3.. Like I said there is some mis-information out there too.

Regardless of what one prefers or is willing to do or try, as long as you at least use what the minimum recommendation is and service regularly, you are safer than doing nothing at all.. Jamie
The thread is only a few months, because I was the one asking about using synthetics and he warned against it in the trans. I see what you are saying though otherwise. I'm a firm believer in synthetics, and would certainly love to flush my trans and go synthetic.. I've just been too scared to do it because of what I heard.

Now I cant speak for the h2, but I drive my H3 a LOT... and I can tell you that there is ZERO difference in power OR mileage using ANYTHING other than 87 octane (unless you have a tuner that requires higher octane). I've logged lots of highway and city miles, and the higher octane never did ONE thing to mileag, power, or how the truck runs.

I have my 2006 H2 for about 2 months now and I always put the highest octane in it and I always get 11.2 - 11.3mpg. I never realized that I could be doing better. I just thought that the H2's weren't meant to get good mileage. Interesting thread.

EVERY vehicle is different. In my wife loaded pacifica, if I run 87 octane it gets 18.x mpg highway TOPS and is a slug. If I run 89 or 91 octane in it, I'll easily get 24mpg highway and it's def. quicker.

BUT I'd run some 87 octane thru on a few tanks and see if there is a diff for you. H2's are NOT good on gas; but apparently you can MAKE them good on gas lol. Intake/exhaust/tuner is the magic-word for GM v8's.

Default Headers anyone?

My exhaust has been upgraded now I am looking for headers.

1. Would they help with power and mileage?

2. What brand would be best for my H2 - 06?

I cant tell brands, as I've been outta the GM scene for years, and I dont know h2's, but yes typically headers on GM v8's help a lot. I'd also do an intake and tuner. In fact, you should start a new thread about your question so you get more views.

I'm running the stock BFG's that came on the truck, the only thing I did was put 42psi in all tires instead of the recommended 32psi. I run 87 octane all the time. The only time you need a higher octane is when you have a vehicle with high compression, turbo, or supercharger. or if your vehicle specifically says it on the gas gauge, fuel cap, or your owners manual. As for intake and exhaust and a re tune, any time you can get the air in and the exhaust out efficiently your going to improve performance and MPG's. So I would definitely recommend intake, exhaust,t and a programmer.

Volante cai with k&n filter
Tower Power 2 throttle body spacer
10mm platinum wires
e3 sparkplugs
electric fan conversion
5/30 Mobil 1 synthetic
I'm only getting 10.3 mpg., was averaging 11.5 mpg in the summer though. Seems strange that the more I do, the less mileage I get. Drive very conservatively as well. Any suggestions?

85_305, Is right about octane not making a difference. All octane does is help to control the burn in the combustion chamber (aid in controlling detonation).

Properly inflated tires and tire composition can make a difference though.. Jamie

kmleong Is the majority of your driving in the city or do you do a lot of hwy driving. B/c if you do a considerable amount of driving in stop and go situations then your doing really well.
