Looking forward to the images. Looks like the part number for the subwoofer is 15177436

just found this image of the side of the subwoofer box: https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/a...75/#post296529

After looking at the image in the link above I was able to pull off some carpet panels on the driver's and passenger's side of the tranny tunnel and sure enough my 08 has a subwoofer. If it was just a little bit shorter I'd be able to pull that out w/o removing the center console. But it doesn't look too bad. I'm sure I'll be replacing it soon so I can get some decent sound in that thing.

pics are below i hope, the silver part is the amp

i am pointing to the sub, also pointing to the screws and nut in the photos that need to come out to get it loose. I havent got it unplugged yet, it will most likely be next week before i get to it, as i will be out of town this weekend.

as you can see, the previous owner wired it for a different amp already, but never got around to it before he sold it. I left the wires in there just in case but i dont think i will ever mess with it. it was easier to leave the wiring in there than pull it all back out again.

it is really too bad that he had most of the panels loose in the whole truck, it rattles all the time now... haha

I managed to remove my subwoofer. It actually works, I can feel air coming out of the box and I can see the speaker moving. But I have to turn the volume way way up to get it to respond. I'm hoping the new that show up works better and at lower volumes.

I think I read it's a dual voice coil speaker so maybe one of the voice coils is shot that's why it's so under powered.

havent got mine completely out yet, how did you get it past the bottom portion of the enter console? pulled it to the passenger side?

Yep, it comes out the passenger side. You need to take out that last piece of carpeting along side the passenger side seat between the console. Then it'll come out.

I took the subwoofer out of the enclosure. It is a dual voice coil 6" woofer. It's pretty decent. On the sticker it says "Bose richbass woofer" which you can find for $35. So if you are thinking about replacing yours b/c you think it's blown, save yourself some cash and just replace the woofer.

I hooked up 5v DC to each of my voice coils and they both work. So I guess my subwoofer is fine. It's just my expectations are too high I guess. Now I wonder if there is a subwoofer gain on the amp....hmmm.

-----------------update---------------------
I received the 'new' subwoofer assembly from Amazon. I say 'new' b/c it had markings on the mounting plate which looked like it had already been mounted in a vehicle and it was missing one of the clips to secure it. Anyway, it didn't sound any better than what I had so I returned it.

The subwoofer doesn't really produce much unless you are playing a CD that has a decent amount of bass in the song.

It looks like the sub was the ticket. It is bumping well again! I had everything removed that was needed in the photos above, it just pulls out to the passenger side as you lift the center console part up. One connector on the driver side top of the sub and it is good to go.

Got it all back together and drove it tonight after getting the heater stuff back together too. Posting there in a sec to confirm that it worked.

you must have got real crazy, i just took out the whole contraption and changed it. im betting that you could throw something of the same size in the box and it would work again, not really sure though.
